Watch what actually happens. Two people claim an armchair each within a second. A third ends up standing on the arm of the sofa, doing an impression of scaffolding. Someone's phone goes flying because they tried to climb and text at the same time. And there's always one person, usually mid-sentence, who looks down half a second too late and realises the rug's just become their problem.

The honest move is knowing your room before you need it. Spot the nearest bit of furniture that'll actually hold your weight — a wobbly coffee table doesn't count, and standing on someone's lap is a grey area nobody's fully agreed on. Claim your spot early and you're never the one paying for it.
